Dehorned and branded 119 head Mexican steers.  5 days gain 5605 pounds.  avg cost with fill 15.1cents per pound.  Cattle received 3/8/55.  Joe Robles helped.

Saturday, March 12, 1955

Received above cattle 5 1/2 truck loads @ 90.00 plus tax from Douglas.

The Old Days

The Farmer was given his Grandfather's journal/calendars beginning from 1955.  These have a record of the farm we live on now.  I am going to start entering the entries here on the day they were written 53 years ago.  Not every day has an entry and they begin on March 7 so in this post I am going to do a bit of catch up.

    Went to Nogales and bought 119 Mexican steers from M. Robles.  Average 418 pounds - Total weight 49850 pounds. 
                            Crossing weights @16 3/4 cents per pound = $8349.88
                            Railroad                                                                                          =$221.77
                            Truck                                                                                                 = $45.00

                                    $72.41 cost per head.

    Received above cattle 3:00 pm - Homer Ridgeway trucked from Picacho.

Friday March 11, 1955

    Went to Douglas and bought 200 head good quality Mexican steeers from M. Robles - average 588.8 pounds crossing wieghts.

                    Crossing wts - 117,760 pounds  =  $22454.82
                    Ridgeway trucks from Douglas =  $509.85
